Community Dental Service
Who is the service for?
The Community Dental Service provides high quality NHS dental treatment to children and adults who have special needs that prevent them receiving dental care from general dental practitioners. This can include children who require extensive dental treatment; children who are very young or uncooperative; adults and children with learning and physical disabilities, complex medical problems or mental health difficulties; and the frail elderly.
In some circumstances limited domicilary (home) care is available. If appropriate, some types of treatment can be provided under sedation or general anaesthesia.
What do they do?
Dentists help us to look after our teeth and gums, and promote good oral health. They can:
- Treat dental pain and dental disease
- Advise on preventive care
- Help with dental anxiety
- Restore oral function
Patient information
- Community Dental Service leaflet
- Better brushing and bad breath
- Flouride facts
- Diet advice for healthy teeth
