Public Health Dietitians
Who is the service for?
This service is for a wide variety of community groups in the East of Berkshire. Although our Public Health Dieititians work with people of all ages many of the projects are designed for children, young people and their families; and professionals working in schools and other educational settings.
What do they do?
Our Public Health Dietitians work with a range of partners to promote healthy eating across east Berkshire. They are involved in many projects to raise awareness of the benefits of eating healthily, including:
-
Schools Nutrition Network - a forum to promote healthy eating and physical activity in schools and early years settings
-
Slough School Meals Survey - our Public Health Dietitian works closely with Slough Borough Council’s Children’s Services Adviser. Every year a survey is conducted in Slough schools to ensure the national standards are met and provide a focus for schools and health professionals for improvements and interventions.
-
Smiling for Life - a programme to help staff in early year’s settings, parents and childminders to understand the importance of healthly snacks, meals and drinks for 0 -5 year olds
-
Cook Project - aimed at improving the cooking skills of 13-19 year olds in Slough
-
Food Awareness Week - a series of educational activitie such as food relay games, 'Blend-a-venda' and chef's demonstrations are run throughout the week to promote healthy eating within schools.
The public health dietitian team also get involved in 'Food for Thought', a half-day training session for carers, chefs and home managers from residential homes for older people.
